Leader of the Pack Leader of the Pack Canine Institute is owned and operated by Lisa McDonald CPDT-KA. Lisa has tested and earned her Certification as a Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT). In addition to belonging to the CPDT, Lisa is a Professional Member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT). She is an Evaluator for the American Kennel Clubs Canine Good Citizen Award. Lisa is also CPR certified in canine and small animal CPR.

She has experience working with all breeds, sizes and temperaments of the canine family. Her family pack of six dogs include two English Mastiffs, one Boxer, one Bichon-Poo, one Yorki-poo, and one miniature poodle. Her lifelong experience, along with her years of studying canine behavior and psychology has given Lisa the ability to teach family members how to respond timely to their pet's behavior and reinforce the proper action for the proper response.

One of Lisa's pack, Amber, who is seen in the above picture, is an English Mastiff. Amber is a very special training dog at LOPCI. She is titled in three levels of obedience, has earned and been awarded the AKC Canine Good Citizen Award, is a certified Therapy Dog thru TDI (Therapy Dog International). Amber is used in our dog aggresive training sessions. She displays very balanced, calm, assertive energy. This is the energy of a natural "Pack Leader". Dog's instantly respect Amber's canine communication, and within a short period of time they mimic her actions. Usually Amber can get an aggressive dog, that was lunging towards her at the beginning of the training session, to walk and lay down with her by the end of the session. This is the beginning of the rehabilitation process! Remember, don't place a dog that has unbalanced energy, with another dog presenting the same unbalanced energy, (One that would bark and lunge back). This only makes for a disastrous combination that can escalate into aggression.

As a canine behavorist, Lisa believes in using positive reinforcment techniques that allow the dog to make the right decision which leads to the correct response. It is her belief that dogs learn faster when given the opportunity to make the proper decisions on their own instead of being forced or placed into a position for a quick response. This is also how the pet family will earn the trust and respect needed to be seen as the human pack leaders inside the home. Her mission in life is to teach as many human pack leaders as possible and create happy and balanced dogs.

Lisa's classes include puppy manners and socialization, adult basic, intermediate, and advanced obedience. Therapy dog training classes are offered along with the AKC Canine Good Citizens Class and Certification. For those pet family's that do not want group instruction or for dogs that need behavior modification, she also provides private instruction at the Canine Institute Facility or "In-Home" training in the convenience of your home. Her experience has shown that many behavioral problems can be intensified at home and sometimes in-home training can be the first step in your dog's rehabilitation process.

At Leader of the Pack Canine Institute we take great pride in offering a full array of services enabling you and you're pet to enjoy a healthy and balanced relationship. Our staff is eager to assist our clients in creating HAPPY and BALANCED DOGS, one leader at a time!
